our founder's story

I was approaching a milestone birthday, and I was coming to the realization that for once in my life I knew who I was.  I knew what I wanted out of life and what standards I had for myself and for the people who would be part of the rest of my journey in this world.

I know I like to wake up an hour earlier than I need to so that I can take my time in the mornings and not feel rushed.  I know that I like fresh flowers in my home.  I know that I am extremely affectionate and extremely cheap.  I like to listen instead of talking.  I like to give, and I also like receiving. I’m a worry wart, but I also don’t take things too seriously. I love spending excessive amounts of time at home. 

Knowing these quirky things about me was very empowering.

Earlier in my life, the only standard I had was the constant need to please others.  But now, I was okay with not investing in those who never invested back in me, even if this was my own family.  I was comfortable saying no to things that didn’t serve me.

I didn’t get to this moment of clarity overnight. It took many years of not knowing my standards to finally realize that I had settled for too long. Tolerated for too long. Desired for too long. Hurt for too long. And I was done.

It was as simple as the turning of a page of a book to a brand-new chapter. And I thought, wow, imagine if I had gotten here sooner.  How much suffering, heartache and disappointment I could have avoided. 

This is why I created The Female Standard. To offer a community where women from all walks of life can share the standards they have or wish they had in their lives. 

May you be able to find the standards that you will hold yourself to, and more importantly may you also get rid of anything or anyone beneath your standards.
